Instagram will be celebrating its 12th birthday this year (2022), but while they’re doing that we will be celebrating the absolute beauty of Instagram Reels skyrocketing views, businesses, and creators with unimaginable heights. Did you know that Instagram is the 2nd most downloaded app on the IOS app store? It might sound impossible to make your big breakthrough on a crowded platform, but thanks to Reels that is no longer the case!
What are Instagram Reels?
Instagram Reels are the direct competition of TikTok’s entire platform– short-form video content. Specifically, the content that is performing exceptionally well on TikTok is catching the eye of many creators and businesses for its laid-back, authentic approach. This means anyone can get involved and start creating with little to no professional gear. All you need to do is have a reliable smartphone with access to the internet to post (up to) a 60-second video that could launch your brand or spread your message.
Reels are Now on Facebook!
Officially known as “Recommend on Facebook”, this feature allows Facebook to show & recommend your Reels on its own platform. Sharing Reels to Facebook will help your content tap into their multi-billion person network.
You may have seen the option to post a Reel directly to your business page (or personal page), however, from research I am still seeing a greater reach and video view count from this method of allowing FB to recommend your Reel. My assumption is that the Instagram algorithm is a bit more dialed in than Facebook when it comes to short-form video content.
Once you opt for this sharing feature, your Reels can be recommended to anyone on Facebook and will be shown with your Instagram username. Viewers will not be able to comment directly on the Reel without transferring over to the Instagram app. You will be able to recommend one specific Reel or all your future Reels on Facebook (I would suggest recommending ALL if you are seeking maximum reach and growth). You do not need a Facebook account to have your Reels recommended on their platform either.
How to Share your Reels on Facebook:
Firstly, when posting an Instagram Reel, you may be introduced to this pop-up notification:
This is by far the easiest way to share, just select ‘Always Allow’. If you have never seen this notification chances are you bypassed it some time ago, are not yet currently offered this ability (not ALL users are yet), or selected ‘Don’t Allow’.
Unfortunately, I can’t help it if you aren’t offered this service yet by Instagram, but I can help you reverse the ‘Don’t Allow’ selection.
If you hit ‘Don’t Allow‘ by accident, then follow the below steps instead.
- Open the Instagram app and tap the profile tab at the bottom-right corner.
- Tap the Menu tab at the top-right.
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Reels.
Once you’re in Reels, it’s as easy as toggling on ‘Recommend on Facebook’.
In the instance that you do not want all of your Reels to be recommended on Facebook, Turn off recommended when you’re posting the Reel via Instagram feed. You will find this option below where you would write a caption.
